Ukrainians light candles in memory of millions of Holodomor victims

In Ukraine, at 16:00 throughout the country, people lit candles in their homes in the memory of the millions of victims of the Great Famine of 1932-1933, organized by the USSR government against Ukrainian people.

In Kyiv, candle lamps are lit near the monument to Holodomor victims on St. Michael's Square and near the Memorial to the Great Famine victims.

Memorial services are held across the country. Day of Remembrance of the Holodomor and political repressions victims in Ukraine is on the fourth Saturday of November (2011 - 26 November). Activities to commemorate Holodomor victims of 1932-1933 are going to be held in 32 countries.

On January 21, 2010 the Decision of the Kyiv Court of Appeal on conviction Bolshevik leaders of the USSR for the organization of Famine-Genocide 1932-1933 in Ukraine came into force. 3 million 941 thousand people were killed during this genocide in Ukraine, according to the findings of the pre-trial investigation of the court scientific and forensic examination of the M.V. Ptukha Demography and Social Investigations Institute of NAS of Ukraine.
