The Master of Fine Arts Svetlana Chursina for already twenty years has been working as a lecturer of the Costume History at the School of Arts. She said she was looking for a long time to find a technology, which will help to show kids the styles of different centuries.
In one magazine she saw a dress made out of napkins, and that gave her a hint to develop her own technique of creating sculptures using just the toilet paper. Now, there are over 20 items in Svetlana’s collection.
In order to make one sculpture the artist spends more than 30 meters of paper. She doesn’t use multicolored rolls, because the details of the image are getting lost. Now the master is working on creating sculptures of brides, so for the first time she is experimenting with the white toilet paper. Her students got very interested in sculptures dressed in Rococo and Gothic styles. However, not everybody is brave enough to study this technique. They say, it is a very hard work. It takes from two weeks to six months to create just one sculpture.
Svetlana Chursina’s next collection will be dedicated to singers. She has already finished the first sculpture for it – of Alla Pugachova.
